Dr. David Thue

David Thue is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Technology at Ottawa’s Carleton University. He leads the SAGA research group (Simulate, Acquire, Generate, and Adapt), and specializes in the development of Artificial Intelligence techniques for improving user experiences, often with a focus on interactive narratives. His work has applications in health, games, creative writing, and citizen science. He serves on the board of directors of the Association for Research in Interactive Digital Narratives (ARDIN), as well as the steering committees of the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS) and the annual workshop on Intelligent Narrative Technologies (INT). He has organized numerous events related to AI and narrative technologies, including ICIDS 2011 (General Co-Chair), ICIDS 2014 (Program Co-Chair), and several related workshops. From 2013 to 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and the Industry Chair of Game Design at Reykjavik University, Iceland, where he led their Emphasis Line in Computer Game Design and Development. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alberta in 2015, with a focus on AI systems that can manage interactive experiences.
