Prof. F. Richard Yu received the PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC). His research interests include intelligent and autonomous systems, machine learning and embodied AI, the Internet of things (IoT), and blockchain. His research has substantially influenced industry standards and design specifications. Several innovative approaches developed through his work have been implemented in commercial products and services, positively affecting millions of users worldwide.
He has been consistently recognized as a Clarivate “Highly Cited Researcher,” Stanford “Top 2% Most Cited Scientist,”and ScholarGPS “Top 0.05% Highly Ranked Scholar” for several consecutive years. He has published 800+ papers in prestigious journals and conferences with 50,000+ and an H-index of 118+ (Googel Scholar).
He has been ranked #29 globally in Electrical and Computer Engineering, #94 in Engineering and Computer Science, and #186 across all fields, among the top 0.05% Highly Ranked Scholars - Prior Five Years (ScholarGPS.com). He received several Best Paper Awards from some first-tier conferences, Carleton Research Achievement Awards in 2012 and 2021, and the Ontario Early Researcher Award (formerly Premiers Research Excellence Award) in 2011.
He is a Member of the Academia Europaea (MAE), a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), IEEE, and IET. He is a Board Member the IEEE VTS and the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE VTS Mobile World newsletter. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE.
