Mobile Cloud Computing: The Beginning of the End? Abstract

Dr. Baochun Li (Bell Canada Endowed Chair in Computer Engineering, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto) Bio

Biography:

Baochun Li received his B.Engr. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, China, in 1995 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, in 1997 and 2000.  Since 2000, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, where he is currently a Professor. He holds the Bell Canada Endowed Chair in Computer Engineering since August 2005. His research interests include large-scale distributed systems, cloud computing, peer-to-peer networks, applications of network coding, and wireless networks. 

Dr. Li has co-authored more than 260 research papers, with a total of over 10000 citations, an H-index of 52 and an i10-index of 158.  Dr. Li was the recipient of the IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Award in the Field of Communications Systems in 2000. In 2009, he was a recipient of the Multimedia Communications Best Paper Award from the IEEE Communications Society, and a recipient of the University of Toronto McLean Award. He is a member of ACM and a senior member of IEEE.

Dr. Li has served as the Associate Editor in IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and the Elsevier Computer Networks Journal.  He is currently serving as the Associate Editor in the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and the ACM/Springer Multimedia Systems Journal.  He has served as the program co-chair of the 12th IEEE International Workshop on Quality of Service (IWQoS) 2004, the program co-chair of 3rd International Conference on Quality of Service in Heterogeneous Wired/Wireless Networks (QShine 2006), the program co-chair of 2010 IEEE Symposium on Network Coding (NetCod 2010), the area TPC chair of IEEE INFOCOM 2011 and IEEE INFOCOM 2014, the program vice chair of the 31st IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (IEEE ICDCS 2011), the program co-chair of the 19th IEEE International Conference on Network Protocols (ICNP 2011), the program co-chair of the 22nd International Workshop on Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video (NOSSDAV 2012), the General Chair for the 21st ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Quality of Service (IWQoS 2013). He will serve as the Panel Co-Chair and Local Arrangement Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2014, and the Program Co-Chair for IEEE INFOCOM 2015.
