Overview

Introduction

If you are a graduate student, publications are really a must. They show that your work has been accepted by the community, and not just some internal working idea that benefits only a small sector. As a Master's student I would expect at least one journal publication, preferably two or three. As a PhD student I would expect more (as the period is longer and the work much deeper); a minimum would be around three and the expectation is around four or five - in some cases more.

In general, publications are focused on quality. I do not support students to publish in conferences such as IASTED (A list of preferred publication venues are listed below) and quantity is not as important as quality - a good paper in a good journal is more important than three average papers.
